Construction of the Brazos River Erosion Control Project is almost complete. Fort Bend County Levee Improvement District 7 (FBCLID 7) was able to resume work in August following months of Brazos River flooding. Over the past three months, the contractor made significant progress to protect New Territory and the FBCLID 7 levee from future erosion. More than 3,000 feet of the Brazos riverbank is now armored with 200,000 tons of stone riprap. Six bendway weirs also extend into the Brazos River to help mitigate erosion through this bend of the river. A recent aerial video of construction progress is available online.
In December, construction will begin on the permanent access road and fences around the erosion control structure. The Brazos River Erosion Control Project is scheduled to be complete in early 2025.
